Senior Partner, David T. Johnson, RHU, GBA
David has more than 25 years of employee benefits experience in leadership positions across the country with the Principal Financial Group, New York Life, and United Healthcare. In 2004, he founded Virtus Benefits with the twofold goal of helping employers control the costs of their benefit plans while delivering a service model never experienced. Today, the firm has grown year over year and was invited to be the exclusive M TN member of the Benefit Advisors Network. David is a Baton Rouge, LA native, graduated from Louisiana Tech University, obtained his RHU from the American College, and GBA from the International Foundation and the Wharton School. He is a member of the International Foundation, National Association of Health Underwriters, M TN Employee Benefits Council, and the Downtown Nashville Rotary. David is married and has three children.
Client Advisor, Daniel McGugin
Daniel joined Virtus Benefits, LLC in January of 2013. Prior to joining Virtus McGugin served as president of Connection Benefit Group in Nashville. McGugin led Connection Benefit Group in offering discount benefit plans to large employers and individuals through direct selling efforts, strategic partners and nationwide marketing campaigns. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, McGugin was a three time Academic All-SEC tennis player. He received his master's degree from the University of Miami (Florida) while serving on the football staff. Daniel is a member of National Association of Health Underwriters and the M TN Employee Benefits Council. He is married with three children.
Director, Client Management, Kristin Sisemore, GBA
Kristin Sisemore graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and began her career in human resources in 1997. Kristin specialized in employee benefits in 1999 and thereafter spent 11 years working for national insurance carriers. Her area of focus was primarily with larger employer groups, in both new business development and client management. Kristin transitioned to benefits brokerage in 2010 and earned her Group Benefits Associate designation through the Wharton School of Business. Kristin is also a Certified Worksite Wellness Specialist (CWWS) through the National Wellness Institute.
As Director of Client Management for Virtus Benefits, Kristin leads the ongoing strategic effort for Virtus clients, as well as ensuring best-in-class service. Kristin specializes in benefit plan strategy, design and administration for our larger clients. Kristin has expertise in all forms of benefit financing; medical, dental, vision, life and disability plans; wellness strategy and implementation; overseeing our client's daily service needs; and proactive, long-range planning to ensure competitive, sustainable benefits for our clients and their employees.
Kristin has received multiple awards and accolades from her former employers, and has maintained membership with the Middle Tennessee Employee Benefits Council (MTEBC) and the Middle Tennessee Society of Human Resources (MTSHRM).
Director, Captive Strategies, David Konrad
David has more than 20 years of finance, marketing/sales, and operations management experience in insurance and banking. As the Vice President of Sales for Roundstone Insurance, David leads all Captive strategies and implementation for Virtus Benefits. David earned a BSBA in Finance and International Business from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Baldwin Wallace College.
Compliance Director, Peter Marathas, Esq.
Peter received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, magna cum laude, his M.A. from Bradley University, summa cum laude, and his B.A. from Bradley University, cum laude. Before practicing law, Peter taught business and technical writing at the University of Illinois and Bradley University and was also a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa. Peter's expertise and extensive experience is in dealing with employee benefits, retirement plans, welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements. He assists his clients with issues arising under the various laws and regulations governing these types of arrangements including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, the IRS code and other federal and state laws. Peter is a Partner in the Boston, MA offices of the highly respected firm of Proskauer Rose. He has been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers in America in the practice of employee benefits and compensation law.
Pharmacy Director, Armand Dilanchian, R.Ph
Armand is a clinically trained pharmacist with over 25 years of experience in managed care and Pharmacy Benefit Management and is currently President and CEO of Integrated Health Concepts (IHC), a national pharmacy benefit consulting firm. Armand received his degree from the University of Utah, College of Pharmacy where he also served as clinical adjunct faculty for three years. He has held the position of Director of Pharmacy Services for FHP Healthcare and PacifiCare of Texas. He also served as the Vice President of Pharmacy and Provider Network for Physician Health Plan of Texas. In his capacity, Armand has been responsible for managing the quality and cost efficiency of the overall Pharmacy Benefit program for both fully insured and ASO clients. He has also served as the chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee for some of those health plans. In addition to BAN's semi-annual conferences Armand has presented at numerous national programs for pharmacists and benefits professionals and has published a number of articles in industry journals.
Medical Director, Bruce Campbell, MD
Dr. Campbell brings over 25 years of executive experience in healthcare, information technology, and managed care to our clients. He has held executive staff and operating positions in healthcare service companies, managed care plans, and healthcare information technology companies. His background includes serving as a Senior Vice President of Operations and the Chief Medical Officer of a national managed care company. He has particular interested in health plan performance improvement, health informatics, and value-based insuranance design. Dr. Campbell earned advanced degrees from the Stanford University School of Medicine, the University of Vermont School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Williams College.
Director of Technology, Joe Markland
Joe Markland is an independent technology consultant. Joe got started in the group insurance business in 1986 and was an early entrant into the benefits technology business. He is considered to be an industry expert on HR and Benefits Technology having published numerous articles and a regular speaker at industry conferences. Joe and his team have consulted with over 1,000 employers ranging in size from 10 to 25,000. He is a graduate of Williams College where he majored in psychology while playing football and baseball.
Mason Johnston, Client Manager
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Mason joined the Virtus team in 2013 after graduating from Vanderbilt University with a degree in economics and history. Prior to joining Virtus Benefits, Mason was a member of the Vanderbilt football team while earning his degree. In his free time Mason enjoys the outdoors, golf, and exercising.
